Description
The Community Action Initiative Society of BC (CAI) provides grant funding and capacity-building opportunities to community-based and peer-led organizations across BC to develop and implement innovative projects in alignment with provincial priorities for mental health and wellness. CAI’s granting framework encourages grant-making in a manner that respects the wisdom, power, and self-determination of equity-seeking groups across BC. Through this, CAI plays a unique role, bridging provincial government priorities and community needs.
CAI is seeking expressions of interest for 2-3 new volunteers to join our Board of Directors. We are currently looking for Directors with a CPA designation, and/or expertise in mental health and substance use challenges in regions outside the Lower Mainland.
The role of CAI’s Board is to govern the overall direction, control, and accountability of our organization and to provide guidance and support to the Executive Director. In addition, collectively the Board is responsible for:
- Ensuring CAI’s mission, vision and values are clear, concise, and current, to provide support and guidance to the organization’s priorities.
- Ensuring effective senior leadership by recruiting, orienting, and evaluating the Executive Director.
- Protecting and stewarding the organization’s assets by overseeing the organization’s governing documents, constitution, by-laws, insurance, and policies.
- Ensuring sustainable resources by understanding, discussing, and approving the annual budget and audit process to ensure effective stewardship of organizational resources.
- Serve as an ambassador by representing a positive image of the organization to the public.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
CAI has a clear purpose and a values-based culture. We welcome and value the contributions individuals who identify as members of equity-seeking communities would bring to our Board, and encourage Indigenous people, people of colour, people who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, immigrants, and people with disabilities to apply.
Time Commitment
Board Members should be prepared to volunteer up to 10 hours monthly on Board and Committee matters. Most board meetings are held online but some in-person engagements would be involved. We ask that all Board members volunteer for a two-year commitment, which can be renewed up to a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms.
