What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

Yellowhead Community Services is a not for profit, charitable society with office locations in Barriere and Clearwater BC. They provide Adult Mental Health and Substance Use counselling at no cost to individuals and groups residing in the North Thompson region from McLure to Blue River.

CAI COVID-19 Surge Funding supports Yellowhead Community Services' counselling team, which has doubled since May 2020. It also supports the provision of flexible counselling options for their community, especially for those who are most vulnerable due to health concerns or are experiencing transportation challenges. While in-person services are available, clients are also able to offer individual and group virtual services through video and telephone counselling. The program provides subsidized loaner cell phones to clients for whom technology is a barrier to accessing care.

"With the COVID Surge funding, we are able to double the number of counselling positions, increasing capacity and accessibility to counselling services. The CAI Community Counselling funding allows us to continue to provide cell phones and short-term plans to clients who are in more isolated areas and need to access virtual counselling."
