What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

RainCity Housing and Support Society provides emergency, transitional, and supported long term housing, as well as wraparound support programs, to over 2000 people throughout British Columbia's Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast.

CAI's Community Counselling Fund supports the expansion of the RainCity Mobile Peer Team and the position of a registered social worker to provide group and individual counselling services in the Maple Ridge area. This addition strengthens the role and capacity of peers to deliver peer counselling services and builds access to sustainable community-based counselling opportunities. This program provides additional training and supervision for peers, which increases the number of qualified team members providing counselling services.

Raincity's Mobile Outreach Counselor is a street-based position that meets people where they are at - connecting people who do not usually engage in mainstream services with appropriate resources. The program also offers groups with an Elder to increase culturally safe programing within the Maple Ridge area.

Quote

"The most significant impact of the Community Counselling fund for our program has been the ability to offer this service that did not exist before in our community. The addition of the RSW to the Maple Ridge Harm Reduction Team has been amazing for both the clients accessing services but also for the peer team members who are now able t access clinical supervision to increase their capacity as well as debriefing the challenging work they are doing in community."
