What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

The Lillooet Friendship Centre Society (LFCS) focuses on providing culturally safe and sensitive services to the people of Lillooet and surrounding area, including the communities of Xaxli’p, Xwisten, Ts’kw’aylaxw, Sekwel’was, T’it’q’et and Tsalalh.

LFCS counsellors, which include a Mental Health and Addictions counsellor and a Cultural Wellness Workers, use best practices from both Western and traditional Indigenous cultural teachings when working with their clients. Counsellors meet one to one or in groups with their clients and work from a holistic approach, offering other LFCS or outside agency referrals when needed, and holding regular monthly cultural events and activities as part of their healing practice.
