What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

CAI community counselling funding supports the position of a full-time clinical counsellor who provides virtual 1:1 counselling as well as group counselling. The adult mental health program at Dze L K'ant Friendship Centre Society coordinates with other programs and activities to ensure that culturally safe counselling services are accessible to all individuals residing in Houston and surrounding areas. The program is built with a Person-Centered foundation with a Trauma-Informed approach that acknowledges the role of systemic marginalization.

Clients access this program for guidance in navigating:
- life transitions
- grief and loss
- LGBTQ2+ and gender identity
- mental health concerns such as feelings of anxiety or depressed mood
- suicidal ideation
- substance misuse including addictions
- the impacts of intergenerational, developmental, acute, and complex trauma.
