What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

Cythera Transition House Society centers cisgender and transgender women, non-binary and gender diverse people who need support with substance use and moderate to complex mental health challenges. Counselling is offered at no cost on both an appointment and drop-in basis, by clinical counsellors and supervised interns. CAI's Community Counselling Fund supported Cythera to develop internal staff capacity to offer informed and safe services to clients in an area where few services exist for people of diverse genders.

Cythera's Stopping the Violence Program (STV) offers clients an opportunity to address experiencs of abuse from a client centred and strengths-based perspective, either individually or in a group setting.
Counsellors work with clients to understand the impact these experiences have had on their well being. Together, counsellor and client use various techniques and or methodologies to alleviate the impact of abuse.
