What This Grantee Is Doing for Community Counselling

Nanki Nezulne (Our Two Spirits) LGBTQ2+ Health and Wellness Services is operated under Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS). Nanki Nezulne aims to provide wrap-around health and wellness supports as well as bolster social, emotional, and health related protective factors for their clients. Their programs include outreach, support, individual and group counselling, community engagement that encourages inclusivity and acceptance of LGBTQ2+ individuals, LGBTQ2+ training and education, and virtual events, activities, and celebrations.

CSFS is a non-profit organization that offers a wide scope of holistic wellness services to member Nations in Northern British Columbia. CSFS and programs operated within prioritize the reassertion of First Nations control of justice, health, social and family services, all of which have suffered through the process of colonization. The development and implementation of CSFS' practices are determined through partnership and collaboration with the First Nations People residing in the Carrier and Sekani Territory. Their priority of community involvement advances the eventual self-governing of LGBTQ2+ human services by the Carrier and Sekani First Nations People.

"The funding from CCF allows CSFS to offer a program that is dedicated to the adult LGBTQ2+ community within our 11 Member Nations. There is not another program that provides dedicated care to this group."
